Bears Crush the NSPL Cascade League

The Tahoma Bears wrestling team put their depth on display qualifying 17 wrestlers for next weeks regional tournament. Tahoma led all teams ending the NPSL League tournament with 443.5 points. Our Head Coach Chris Feist was honored with the Coach of the Year award, his first nomination in his time at Tahoma. Three Tahoma wrestlers shared the honor of NPSL Wrestler of the year award, Nick Whitehead who won the 132 pound weight class, Ryden Fu who won the 145 pound weight class and Dagen Kramer who won the 220 pound weight class. Other Tahoma League champions were Austin Michalski at 113 pounds, Cameron Hanson at 126 pounds, Justin Sipila at 152 pounds, Gage Dress at 182 pounds, Kione Gill at 195 pounds and Nic Carbone at 285 pounds. Jordan Martiniez, Gunner Starren and Joe Novak were all finalists and took 2nd place. Other wrestlers placing in the top 4 and moving on to regionals were Reid Carlton, Jacob Vanderwaal, Ethan Vaughan, Payton Masterson and Jake Bir. Nate Douglas and Noah Sturgill will move on as alternates.

Next weekend, on February 11th, the team will head to Skyline High School in Issaquah to compete in the Regional tournament. The top four wrestlers from this tournament will move onto the State Tournament held on February 17th and 18th at the Tacoma Dome.
